Illiteracy - Three Indentures from 17th Century England - Charles Mordaunt

Three 17th Century indentures:

-Charles II indenture 1667 in Oxfordshire for £32 and 10 shillings from Nicholas Bigges 20cm x 15cm

This fascinating indenture clearly illustrates the level of literacy of the time given the juvenile handwriting of Nicholas Bigges and the Signature "B" of the illiterate James Batchelor

-Large William IV indenture between Jeremy Bower of Bradford and John Smith of Shipley 1691, 49cm x 39cm

-Charles I receipt deed for the huge sum of £800 from Baron Sir Charles Mordaunt, Essex 1648 30cm x 20cm
