-Cook's 3rd voyage was the first European voyage to chart Hawaii and the NW Coast of America. Cook was killed during the voyage on Hawaii as he overstayed his welcome. Despite being a controversial figure today, he was a skilled navigator and formed important charts of the regions he visited.

The plates include one of the first images of surfing on Hawaii.
